If You Can't Afford Two, Don't Buy One

Let me tell you a personal secret.

If there is a single rule I follow in my financial life, this is:

"If you can't afford two, don't buy one".

It doesn't matter how expensive it is, may it just be a 3-in-1 coffee or a frappucino from Starbucks; a traditional keypad phone or a new version of an iPhone; a second-hand car or a Porsche, the quote applies.

I remember passing by a retail store at the local mall. I looked up the price of a good button-down shirt, then counted my money first before trying it out. I was short two hundred to buy two of it - the shirt was priced at 1600PHP, I just had 3000PHP.

Did I even try it out? Nope. I was strict with my principle and that's more important than having to want a shirt. After all, I still have a couple good ones at home.

To my fellow new young adults,

This is just the first phase of adulting and this is what our parents prepared us for throughout these years, besides schooling. We cannot have our move in this chessboard we call the modern world, without enough money because truthfully, everything's money-driven. That's why make your money honestly and spend them wisely.

The world is fast-paced, most especially when it comes to money and the economy - talk about inflation and the prices going up. This is my way of coping up with it, and so far, it's working.

If this is the Ilocano kuripot in me speaking, then so be it. As long as it gives me financial freedom, I'm going to live with it for the rest of my life.
